Only 10 riders tonight but it was a nice sunny evening and empty roads up to Constantine and down to the Gweek Inn. There was some unseemly sprinting up the hills by the younger contingent along the way but we managed to stay together, pretty much. A lovely pint was had and then it was the long climb up out of Gweek and home. It was also au revoir to the members going on the Irish tour who are departing for Cork on Friday for a week in sunny Ireland. Click here for route and profile of tonight's ride.

At 10am six riders met at the Falmouth packet ready to go. We were not sure which route to take so Dale suggested that we head for the boating lake in Helston. We headed through Budock, then through No Man's Land and on to Treverva through Gweek and on to Culdrose. Dave said that he knew of a tea room at Gunwalloe, so we headed off and arrived at Trenoweth Farm at 11.45.
The tea room did not open until 12 oclock so we rode to the top of the hill where we enjoyed a lovely view across Mullion golf course and out to sea. After about half an hour we made our way back to the tea room where we enjoyed a very welcome cup of coffee and a delicious piece of home made cake. Dale departed the main group after tea because he needed to be home by 1.30, so the rest of us decided to go back into Helston.
We then took the road to Poldark mine, on to Carmanellis, then on to Halvasso and home. The riders were Dave, Mike, Liz, Dale, Graham and myself. We completed 32 miles and enjoyed a really good ride.  Denise.

Today started very wet but there were plenty of Wheelers waiting at H.Q. for the 10 o’clock ride. Don G fancied a ride to Loe Beach cafe. A group of six wanted to go on the ride.  K.K. and another group planned to go on a shorter route. I had a route in mind so Don, Claire, Shane, Phil and Helston Trevor set off in the rain.

We went up to Halvasso, out through Stithians and over Trewithan Moor. At the top of Lanner we took the back road down to Carharrack and followed the 'Mines and Minerals' route to the top of Blackwater, before taking a right to bring us out at the crossroads, and then straight over and onto Dangerous Crossing. A good level run, the rain had stopped and the roads were drying quickly.

At Dangerous Crossing we met a group of walkers on a charity walk for the Neo-natal Unit at Treliske. With donations made, we took the Baldhu road to the back of Carnon Downs and turned up left to Playing Place. We continued on to the Trelissick road and peeled of right to Feock and down the very steep decent to the cafe at Loe Beach. A lovely spot with great views and good coffee.

Coffees consumed, that steep hill needed to be ascended. I for one chickened out and walked up. Don cycled passed me and the others waited at the top having successfully negotiated it.  We dropped down onto the Tramway via Penpol and then took the main road home as far as Hangmans Hill. The rest followed the cycle route and I headed for home . My computer batteries went but it was about 40 miles. Hilary

The forecast was good but the hangovers must have been bad as only 8 stalwart Wheelers set course for Marazion.  The group consisted of 2 Dons, 2 Daves, 2 Richards, Caroline and myself. To keep the twos going we used the two route system with the Dons and Caroline taking the direct line while the rest of us going the scenic way via St. Erth.We met up again for vitals at the bridge café minus Caroline who had turned for home earlier.

Don G led us over the Longrock footbridge to Ludgvan past fields of Agapanthus in full bloom, an impressive sight. The climb up to Trencrom was well rewarded by the panoramic views of Mounts Bay from the top (the road near the top, not 'at the top') A long decent to Hayle where the floral  display along the back of the harbour made that detour a pleasant meander away from the potholes and traffic of the main street.

At Connor Downs we again split with the 2 Dons opting for a leisurely route while 2 R's 2D's and I  enjoyed the warm sunshine through Troon and Bolenowe – pronounced Bolenowe - to Four Lanes.  At Stithians Richard 1 and I headed for home leaving the others to head to Falmouth. After the wet rides of previous weeks this dry ride of 58miles was a pleasant experience.  Jim

Today was the best ever Annual Pre-Carnival Ride (well, it was the first after all).
Dodging rogue showers and headwinds we plucky three, JB, Red Leader and myself kept good pace down to the Lizard for a new café stop, Coast Café & Bistro, recommended by Rocky and very nice it was too.
Then it was back via Helston to Porkellis for a swift pint in the sunshine and then to Halvasso and home. The only downside on this beautiful day was it was change over day for the holiday makers and the Lizard road seemed like the M1 at times. Click here for route and profile. Jono

Falmouth Wheelers are delighted to announce the birth of a new baby boy (we know its a boy because its blue....) to David ‘Admiral’ Spargo and his wife.

Father and baby are doing well and expected to be out of the roads of Cornwall in the near future. Christening and wetting of the baby’s head will be held in Ireland in early September.
