Lord, don’t stop the Carnival

When I heard that Boardmasters had been cancelled because of an extreme weather report I had secretly hoped that the Falmouth Carnival Organisers might have taken note. I had avoided being in or even watching the Falmouth Carnival in each of the previous 30 years I have lived in Cornwall, and now I know why. Mind you, there were many that didn’t share my opinion. Caroline was there, Steve and Gill, Marilyn, Teresa, £5 Jim, Rob Jenkin, but all of […] Read More

I have often ridden up this street before ….

But my bum has always stayed upon my seat before. I think I must be getting old as the hill up from the Loe Beach Café was a bit of a strain this morning. When Phil1 said that it was only 150 my fears were confirmed. It has been announced that Boardmasters is being cancelled due to doom and gloom on the weather front (what a pity Brexit can’t be, Ed) so I was expecting a rainy ride, but it […] Read More

There & back, round & round and up & down and somewhere in here is a cycling sportive

There’s more to a weekend of cycling than just the main event!  Several Wheelers had entered the Ride London & Surrey 100, so I am sure that between them they can put together a full report of the big ride itself.  A weekend of cycling covers many other activities over the three days or so.  My account covers what I got up to on the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. My journey up was mainly by train, as was the […] Read More

Falmouth Carnival

Don’t forget that it is the Falmouth Carnival this Saturday 10th August.  At the meeting we decided No Fancy Dress, No Silly Costumes, Just Us and our Bikes. Please meet at the Falmouth Rugby Club at 6.00 p.m. but you can always get there earlier as there is entertainment and of course a Bar.  Wear your Club Kit, bike not essential as we have flags that someone can carry.  See you Saturday.

Weds 31st July , Fox and Hounds, Comford

The girls outnumbered the boys at HQ so Robin’s suggested route was vetoed and we went down through Budock, up Halvasso, down to Stithians, up to Burncoose, (where Amanda headed home), down to Gwennap, where a crowd was gathering for the Four Lanes Male Voice choir singing at the Pit, well it was a lovely evening. We found Richard waiting out front so got our drinks and joined him. It was cosy round one table, and the hanging baskets were […] Read More

What would Ian do?

It was back to jackets again this morning, for all except Keith, that is, who despite the fact that 1). Rain was forecast and 2). It was raining when we set out this morning. Phil3 had either been in two minds about going or had been delayed in setting out because he was looking for his coat as we caught him up just after Argal Crossroads. As often is the case it started with a bit of mizzle but once […] Read More
