Club meeting and talk – August 28th. 1930hrs

Lessons from a second ultra   The talk will be followed by the usual Club Meeting Charlie Furness says – “Two years after my first ultra, I decided I would give it another shot. This time closer to home, aiming to cross France in under five days. It turns out that headwinds and saddle sores are like death and taxes, they’re inescapable.” Open to all. The talk is prior to our club meeting but you’re welcome to stay and hear […] Read More

Time trial recce

You may feel it’s too windy to go cycling and no one should persuade you otherwise. And when it’s a decision made by an event organiser the pressure to get that call right increases and will likely veer towards caution – however much that upsets the participants! The recent LEL being one such example. But it was a different scene at Victoria early last Sunday morning. Kernow Cycling Racing had organised a “recce” 10 mile time trial for us to […] Read More

Sunday ride 10th August

One riders’ view of a sunny day trip Lamorna. Could there be anything better than a sunny summer Sunday Wheelers GroupRide to Lamorna? Dale,Robin and Steve thought not as they enjoyed crab on cheesy chips, fresh sardine salad and a cheese and spicy three bean toastie  at a table overlooking overlooking the cove. It was tempting to join the bathers floating in the clear, cool water on the beach far below, another time maybe? Meeting at H.Q. members of the […] Read More

Sunday Ride 27th July

Things felt a little more like the old days on Sunday. For a start, there were more than just a handful of riders at HQ – and seeing Richard Mace and Phil Eagles there helped reinforce this impression. Ian was happy to bark a few orders and quickly organise the gathered wheelers into two groups with the plan to head to the same cafe, Wheal Coates at St Agnes. We’d just have to see whether chaos ensued. I led the […] Read More

St Erth Pathfinder 13th July

13 riders attended Jan’s Pathfinder yesterday. Sadly Jan was unable to ride having dislocated her shoulder saving a small child from being eaten by a grizzly bear (not true, but a lot better the actual reason!). Ian/Dale/Robin/Phil 4/Trevor set off from HQ at 8am unexpectedly collecting Martyn and Margaret on the way near Carnmenellis as they were fixing the chain on their tandem. The chain break did trigger a fall but happily the only casualty was Martyn’s banana (collateral damage?). […] Read More

Sunday Ride Report 29th June

Seven Wheelers responded to Robin’s suggestion of Roskilly’s for a destination on Sunday.  Described as “a route on new or less ridden roads, 20 miles with 1,500 feet of climbing at about 11-12 mph”, I looked for the hidden agenda otherwise known as “hills” between the lines. It sounded all right.  Not having been able to ride so much this year a rare outing on a Sunday club ride would do me good. So I made it eight when we […] Read More
