JOMO

According to Dominos there’s Joy Or there’s Missing Out. And it was all Joy this morning, for both the fact that on the strength of a fair forecast we were Poldhu bound, and that we welcomed Steve Lightfoot into the Union Corner fold. Having retired on Friday he had his priorities just about right. Through the miracle that is the OGIL Whats App group we had a full complement of six; Phil1, Kath, Sylvia, Jan, Steve and myself, as the watch flipped over to 8.50am and we prepared to leave. Those Missing Out from what was going to be the last ride before Lockdown 2 were John and Colin. What could have been more important? It was a cool but bright start to the day, made cooler as we occasionally dipped down to river level, such as at Trewardreva Mill and Gweek. My much commented on, but rarely positively, Altura Night Vision jacket failed to keep me warm until the moment the sun appeared, when its performance excelled.
After the long climb up to Mawgan we took the turn into Lower Lane, even though we expected the Trelowarren Estate gate to be closed, causing us to climb back up to the B3293 and head to the Downs. There was no mad rush to cross the Downs but we were still a little earlier than usual when we finally dropped down to Poldhu beach. The seats in the sun were all taken but having found our way through the roped off areas we made our purchases and made ourselves comfortable on the grassy area.
The hill up to the golf club welcomed us as we made our return home; uneventful except for Steve experiencing a clipless moment at some point and crashing into the hedge at some point. Muddy Lanes lived up to their name but nothing else worth mentioning. 45 miles for me. Dean
