Report on the FWs June Meeting

Once again our meeting was held in Queen Mary gardens, Falmouth, with a good turn out of members.  Apologies were received from Jan, Denise, Barbara, and Robin.  Fred chaired the meeting and the first topic was the Pathfinder this coming Sunday from Longrock, or Halvasso if you’re cycling down.  Please be at the start for 9.45 am.  The Cycle Campaign Ride has been moved from July 3rd to 31st due to the restrictions, and will from Falmouth Town station, round the Point and back to Gylly beach.  It’s intended for families and children, to get people on their bikes who never usually cycle.  Members are asked to help support and encourage those taking part.   Plans continue for the Tour of Britain on September 5th, coming through Falmouth at midday.  Dean will obtain a stencil to put the club logo on the road in various places visible to the helicopter, using washable spray paint.   We intend to form a long line of members all in club shirts, in whichever place we’re allocated.  Paula brought some club kit to sell.

The Big OGIL Ride is next Wednesday, June 30th, meeting at Union Corner at 7.50am and covering 200k (135 miles).

The Wednesday evening social ride is no longer called a pub ride, because of the connotations with drinking alcohol.  Meet at HQ at 6pm.

Fred reminded us that we must ride in smaller groups,  just be sensible, and leave gaps to let the traffic pass safely.  We should all have third party insurance with Cycling UK.

Dean has written to the council about the dangerous situation at Argal crossroads, where there have been several accidents involving both cars and bikes.  He has been told they will look into it.  Dean thanked everyone who has contacted him with their horror stories.

The Coast and Clay Sportive in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care is on July 18th.  There are four distances. Enter via their website, or on the day if there are still spaces – £5 extra.

Phil Conroy hopes to hold our Club Audax on September 26th, from the Cricket Club who have agreed to the date.  It will be a smaller event than usual with no entries on the day.  Help will be needed with organisation and catering.

Fred reminded us to download What Three Words, and Phil S offered membership cards to anyone who hasn’t got one, to carry your emergency contact details in non-tech form.

Our next meeting should be at Wood Lane Social Club on Thursday July 29th, at 7.30 for 8pm.  Conformation on the website as soon as we know for sure.

The meeting closed at 7.20 pm.
