Report on the September 30th Meeting

The meeting was attended by 16 members and apologies were received from Fred, Amanda, Dean E, Don G and Don M, Mike C,  Dave G, and Adrian H.  Phil Samuel chaired the meeting.

Past Events:

The Tour of Britain came through Falmouth on September 5th.  There was a good turn out of 23 of our members, who rode round the Point in wearing club kit.  Thanks to Robin who loaned the trailer, Ian who cleaned it, Damien and Amanda who moved it to the Point, and Dean and Paul who painted the club logo on the road.  It was reported to be still there after several weeks, but will wash off eventually!  Also on the 5th, Kath and Jan rode the Glastonbury Sportive.

The Welsh trip, from Cardiff to Holyhead was from Sept 6th – 13th. Kath, John, Caroline and Victor took part.

The Pathfinder on Sunday 19th was led by Ian, who took us on an interesting 26 mile circular route from Longrock with a stop at Birdie’s Bistro.  22 members took part, including 5 e-bikes.  6 members rode down.  We were blessed with fine weather – third time lucky!  Thanks to Ian for a great day out.

The Club Audax on Sept. 26th was a great success – and the only one in Cornwall this year.  There were 49 entries for the 100k route and 27 for the 50k ‘Bunny Hop’. Very many thanks to Phil Conroy for all his hard work organising it, and his helper on the day, Phil S.  Thanks also to everyone who helped in the kitchen, made sandwiches and cakes, and helped clear up afterwards.  Falmouth Cricket Club is an ideal venue for this event, so thanks to them for making it available to us.  The Audax raised over £500 which will go into the FW charity fund, and Phil announced the date of our next club Audax :  April 10th 2022.

Forthcoming Events:  Saturday Oct 2nd, the Lands End Sportive.

Monday 4th October: Jan’s Pilates Class starts at Wood Lane at 5.45pm.  Ten sessions for £30. Eight members have signed up and paid; two spaces available.

Sunday 17th: the October Pathfinder led by Phil Conroy. Meet at the Gnome World layby,  Indian Queens at 10am.  The route will be 27 miles with lunch at the Camel Trail Tea Rooms.

Saturday November 6th:  COP 26 protest day in Truro.  Details on the website.

A.O.B.

The Coast and Clay Sportive, back in July, which 17 of our members rode in, has raised £27,795 after expenses for Cornwall Hospice Care.  A very good result.

The committee has negotiated a yearly membership rate for the use of Wood Lane Social Club on the last Thursday of each month for our meetings, and occasional other Thursdays.  No more individual payments.

The general feeling regarding Awards was that we don’t have any this year, but will start afresh for 2022.  The committee will make a decision.

Dean is planning another annual Christmas magazine and would like contributions.  Please contact him with any ideas.

There being no other business, the meeting closed at 8.15pm, and was followed by a fascinating talk by Robin, about his recent cancer surgery and recovery, and the need to keep fit and to exercise, to ensure the best outcome.  Don’t ignore the warning signs for any medical issue!
