Report on the Club Meeting, April 28th 2022

There was quite a small turn out for this month’s meeting, with apologies from 14 members, including the six who are cycling in Mallorca this week, but we were happy to welcome a new member, Trevor Wedgwood.

Past Events:

April 3rd – the Pathfinder from St Columb was led by Damien.  The 27 mile route took us north to Trevose Head, where the coastal scenery was stunning and we enjoyed a lunch stop at the cafe; the return ride went past Newquay Airport.

April 10th – The club Audax from Falmouth Cricket club was very successful, with 60 riders finishing the 100k route and 26 rides completing the 50k Bunny Hop.  The first rider home in the 100k took 4hrs 26mins (that’s an average of 26kph or 17.5mph?!)  The Audax made £550 which included £118 in donations for the tea.  Thanks again to everyone who made or bought cakes.

Next year the Audax will be on April 2nd, because Easter is earlier.

Future Events:

The June Pathfinder will be led by Paul Crudgington on a date to be decided, going from St Austell to Lostwithiel and back.

May 15th – the Celtic Coastal from Wall, 105k

June 19th – the Mines and Minerals Audax from Carharrack, 67k, on road and off road.

July 10th – 200k, 100k, and 50k from Perranwell.  All of these events have no entries on the day.  There’s a new system on the Audax UK website; you need to register if you’re not a member of Audax UK, before you can enter an event.

June 6th to 12th is National Bike Week.  On Saturday 11th on the Moor, there’ll be bike shops and e-bike hire.  Dean is looking for ideas and support, and there’ll be a short ride around town.

AOB

Fred is away from now until the end of June, Amanda will chair the next meeting on May 26th.

Martyn told us about the local CTC group AGM on Zoom, on May 20th at 7pm.  The group is affiliated to Cycling UK.  It will be offering first aid training for ride leaders.

Paula has short-sleeved tops and buffs in club colours.

We have been asked by the organisers of two triathlons, on Aug 28th and Sept 25th, if any of our members would volunteer to help marshal.  It was agreed that the club couldn’t commit to our members to helping with these events, especially as they are both on a Sunday when we cycle.

There was no other business, so the meeting closed at 8.15pm.
