Wheelers Sunday Ride 9th October

A very good turnout by Club members today, we were up into the 20’s with several different routes being discussed, Portreath, Porthleven, Perranuthnoe and Perranporth. It was definitely a ‘P’ day!

I opted for Perranporth along with seven others, Fred, Kath, Sheila, Colin, Trevor3, Ben and Dean.

The weather was going to be dry but with an autumnal chill in the southerly wind.

The chosen route was across to the Norway via Treluswell.

Up to Carnon Downs down to Penweathers and up behind the Council HQ and down intoTruro, yes it was the up and down route! Through to the Quiet Lanes and Idless woods. Goonhavern came next and into a traffic jam due to road works. We jumped ahead of the queuing cars stopped at the temporary traffics lights by going around the new cycle path. Into Perranporth and finishing up at the Stepping Stones. Unfortunately, inside was full up but we were quickly found seating outside in the sunshine. Our orders came with the usual efficiency.

Whilst there we were joined by Danny who we haven’t seen for a while.

It was the usual way back home, but this time into a stiff headwind. Up the vally and across to Scorrier. Fred and Dean dropped off in Stithians to enjoy some light refreshments. Danny and Trevor went on ahead and the remaining four headed back via ‘deaf cat alley’, down past the donkey sanctuary and through the lane past Argal Farm. At Hill Head Road we had to wait for Kath she eventually appeared having fallen off into a hedge at the start of the lane because she was in the wrong gear. Unable to get up she was rescued by Chris Bloore who just happened to be driving past.

45 miles and 4275ft nor a bad day out!

Phil
