Are we crazy or what?!

It was 9.25am, and raining as I waited alone at Union Corner.  I’d just passed Kath going in the other direction (home?) and I was sure no one was coming, Just as I was thinking about doing the Mawnan circuit and going home, Don, Denise and Sonjia arrived.  Denise said they were going to Truro, ‘something different’.  Sounded interesting so I tagged along.  Don had the route worked out on his Garmin – Truro hill (thank goodness I’m now on an e-bike!) down Carclew hill, through Perranwell, out toTrewedna and then a devious route – I hadn’t a clue where we were – to Twelveheads.  Right, then right again towards Baldhu, Goonvean and eventually we crossed the A390 and rode down to join the cycle path round the back of Truro, to the Trafalgar roundabout.  The traffic was heavy and the rain continued to pour down, so it was a relief to turn down towards Malpas and stop at the Trennack Mill pub.  Boscawen park  was looking colourful despite the weather – the daffodils and hyacinths are in their prime.  We left our dripping bikes under cover outside the pub, and enjoyed very welcome hot drinks plus cheese toasties ( D,D, and S) and carrot cake (me).  All voted excellent, along with quick and friendly service.  It was hard to drag ourselves away from the warmth, and putting wet gloves back on is never much fun, but we needed to get home, via the cycle path alongside the Truro river, joining the old Falmouth road at Calenick, and from Playing Place to Carnon Downs and Perranwell.  A fairly challenging ride in poor conditions and some heavy traffic, but an interesting route, lots of it new to me, and excellent company.  A useful learning curve for this newly-converted e-bike rider.     31 miles for me.
