We’ll have the usual agenda of what’s been happening and what’s coming up in October. This marks the start of our talks series. This month we’ll hear from Robin Snelson – If I knew I’d be as fit as this at nearly 68 I might have taken better care of myself. Robin recounts the story of his recent diagnosis of cancer and the advise and support he got prior to agreeing to surgery. He finds humour in all that has […] Read More
I had intended to write a quick report after last Sunday’s ride(Aug 15th) but somehow never got round to it, so I will start with that. It was a dull dismal day that greeted the assembled company more than expected with a forecast of horribleness. I for one did not fancy venturing to far as too much water shrinks my enthusiasm from keen to less keen to you gotta be having a laugh. I suggested the crate as I knew […] Read More
OGIL ride 18th August 2021 It started with mizzle, which turned into drizzle, which then became something more like rain, before reverting back to mizzle. There were a few brief interludes when it could almost have been described as dry. We all got lots of practice with putting rain jackets on and taking them off again. The only concession to it being summer was that it was not actually freezing cold, although sitting outside in the gazebo at Miss Molly’s […] Read More
OGIL ride 11th August 2021 An even later report than usual, due to circumstances such as non-cycling commitments, the need for extensive editing and proof-reading, and the absence of my libel lawyer on holiday. After last week’s possibly record turnout, we were distinctly down on numbers. The WhatsApp group was abuzz with creative excuses for absence – appointment with eyeologoist (that’s not a real word), being tied down(!), seeing grandsons, delayed departure of eldest son, bike bust and rib bust […] Read More
When Fred asked for volunteers to join the rides committee at the last meeting I put my hand up as I didn’t like seeing him all on his own. Little did I realise that he was going to immediately promote me to rides committee chair and then leave. The need for a committee has been apparent these last couple of weeks, with an increasing number of members turning up on Sunday morning and an increasing number of rides leaving. This […] Read More

OGIL ride 4th August 2021 The count at TOP was a dizzying seventeen, which meant that a few reminders needed to be shouted out to keep the road clear as riders greeted each other like long lost relatives recently discovered after extensive investigation on Ancestry.com. Ian helpfully quipped that we should save our energy for our legs rather than our jaws! The usual culprits were supplemented by Thornbury Colin, out on his last ride with us before heading home the […] Read More
Sorry, Zoe, I know I said this mornings ride would be no more than about 45 miles, and Kath said we would be going down the small country lanes, no main roads, but I forgot that Ian is riding his bike with gears again. There were about 300 when I arrived at HQ with more turning up by the minute. Our Chair lept into action to get everyone sorted into, was it seven groups? Some said they were going to […] Read More
The meeting last night was back in the newly refurbished Wood Lane Social Club, but with fewer members than usual because of the very wet and windy evening. Apologies were received from Phil S, Simon, Paul and Hilary, and Robin. Fred chaired the meeting. Past Events – The Coast and Clay Sportive was on July 18th, in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care. 14 members took part in four different distances. It was an extremely hot day but the event was […] Read More
OGIL ride 28th July 2021 Nobody felt particularly optimistic about the weather on this cool, damp and distinctly blustery morning, and we weren’t to be disappointed. Sunny intervals with showers was the forecast, and to be fair we did have some short bursts of sunshine. However, the showers seemed at times to have integrated both vertically and horizontally to give us extended periods of fairly heavy rain. It was a rain jacket on, then off, then on again sort of […] Read More
