Report on the April zoom meeting

The Wheeler’s Zoom meeting last night  was the final one in that form – the next  two will be open air picnics, and then we get back to Wood Lane Social Club after a break of well over a year. 12 members joined the meeting last night, chaired by Fred.  We were all pleased to hear that Wood Lane will be open and welcoming everyone from July 1st, after an extensive refurbishment, so our meeting, as  usual, will be on the last Thursday, July 29th at 7.30 for 8pm.  We hope to arrange to pay a yearly lump sum for the use of their clubhouse, instead of each of us paying individually.  So….those picnics!  On May 27th we’ll meet at 7pm in Queen Mary Gardens, Falmouth (right next to Gylly beach) and on June 24th the venue will be Kimberley Park, also at 7pm.  If it looks like rain come suitably dressed or bring a brolly!

We didn’t have a Pathfinder at all in 2020, so it’s very good news that Ian has agreed to lead one this month; meet at Longrock Industrial Estate 9.45am on Sunday May 23rd, where there’s plenty of parking for those of us driving down.  Members cycling there should meet at the weighbridge at the top of Halvasso at 8.00am.  The Pathfinder will be approximately 25 miles, with a stop for refreshments somewhere – Ian is being secretive about it!  In June we have a Pathfinder on 27th from Indian Queens.

On May 30th, Cycling UK is holding The Great British Bike ride, and as it’s a Sunday we’ll be out anyway, so please sign up for it and send in your mileage afterwards.  The total over the whole country should run into thousands of miles cycled, which could be used to petition for better conditions for all of us.

Fred reminded us that we should try to recruit someone from each group to write a ride report when we’ve been out, with a photo if possible.  It tends to be the same people each time, so if writing isn’t your thing, just send in the details of the ride to Dean at news@falmouthwheelers.co.uk   and he’ll do the rest.

The Pub rides are going well, with Teresa organising them – see the calendar for venues.  Going out again on a Wednesday evening doesn’t suit everyone, especially if you’ve been on a long OGIL ride that morning, but they are great for anyone working, to get out on a summer evening.

The new Club Kit is in!  See the whole range listed on this website, and contact Paula if you need anything.  New this year are buffs in club colours at £12.50 and of course, unique to FWs.

With no more topics to discuss, the meeting closed at 8.40pm.
