Through Tree Low Warren

OGIL ride report 23rd February 2022 The weather turned out to be a bit of a tease today. The forecast was promising, but as we rode up from Union Corner the sky assumed an ominous leaden hue. Sure enough, the wet stuff started to descend on us, but the shower was short lived. For most of the day we basked in sunlight, although a fresh breeze persisted from the SSW. The weather was probably instrumental in bringing a few old […] Read More

Report on the AGM etc., February 24th 2022

Twenty four members attended the club AGM.  Apologies were received from Phil Conroy, Charlie and Jill Prior, Steve Hudson, and KK.  Approval of the minutes of last year’s AGM were proposed by Dean and seconded by Martyn. Fred gave the Chairman’s report, commenting on a very successful and busy year; with restrictions lifting, we were able to enjoy four Pathfinders, the Coast and Clay sportive, our club Audax, the Welsh trip for four members, and a lovely Christmas tree at […] Read More

OGIL’s in the wind

Six met at TOP and braved the weather on this weeks OGIL. The destination was quickly decided as being Miss Molly’s and by the quickest route, which was achievable without Ian. Off up Halvasso and onto the Helton Road where we had a first battering into the wind up to Crane garage. Along past the lake and we had a side wind where we should have formed up into an echelon, but I don’t think the traffic would be best […] Read More

John survives to ride another day

OGIL ride report 9th February 2022 As I sit here with the wind and rain lashing the windows of my humble study, and unexpectedly with some time on my hands, I thought it would be a good opportunity to reflect on last week’s OGIL ride. It would also go some way to mitigating the criticisms I might justifiably incur about yet another late ride report. Despite a number of apologies appearing on the WhatsApp OGIL group from a few of […] Read More

We need a plan ….

OGIL ride report 2nd February 2022 Twelve of us milled around fairly aimlessly at TOP, perhaps slightly nonplussed at the unseasonably mild weather for the first OGIL ride of February.  Steve2 (aka B A Steve – don’t ask) took this to extremes by wearing shorts! After some discussion and straw polls, the Chocolate Factory at Mullion was decided on as our destination, despite concerns being voiced that it has recently been observed in a distinctly closed state. Nevertheless, it was […] Read More

Hi Ho, skip to the loo!

Another bonus day, and a great ride to the Sunset Surf cafe at Gwithian. As has been the norm for the last few weeks, I said I would go a shorter route so as not to hold up the boy, and girl, racers. Fred volunteered to keep me company but once again, we seem to have ridden about the same distance as the rest. We parted company with the main group at Carnkie, to turn towards Penmarth, stopping to admire […] Read More

Report on the Club Meeting, Jan. 27th 2022

Twenty one members attended the meeting, and apologies were received from KK, Denise, Steve H, Steve L, Adrian H, and Ian.  It was great to welcome back Jill and Charlie Prior, who will be cycling with us again now they’re retired.  Phil announced that every member at the meeting had paid their subs! but a reminder to anyone else; please pay yours soon. Fred chaired the meeting and thanked Barbara, KK and Denise for their work on our beautiful tree […] Read More

January Pathfinder

The lack of Pathfinders during the long months of lockdown found the Wheelers raring to go, and in numbers. 25 turned up at the Tresillian (or is it the Probus/just past the Mercedes garage?) lay-by. About half had ridden from base. Some were hauled back by Ian (chief sweeper) heading in the opposite direction. There were several sparkies, including a welcome appearance by KK. Finally a large peloton set off steadily and well together, up the hill to Probus. As […] Read More

OGILS ride 26th Jan 2022

The weather forecast was promising light cloud and sunny intervals, but as is the norm it was a grey depressing day. Eight hardy wheelers met at top and as it was just past Amanda’s birthday which meant she was buying the coffees she was allowed to choose destination as nice coffee is very important to her. Sunset surf at Gwithian was agreed on and off we went, at Porthkellis and then at Praze and bubble Phil rang the café and […] Read More

A tale of two rides

OGIL ride report 19th January 2022 It was a gloomy and slightly mizzly start to the day, although glimpses of blue sky gave the twelve assembled at TOP hope that we might have a dry ride. A consensus was reached relatively quickly that we should aim for Porthtowan. Paul and Simon however were determined to complete a 100km ride and so were going to head for Hayle, then along the north coast to perhaps meet us at Porthtowan before continuing […] Read More
