Day 6

The Grand Tour. A fabulous day out, meeting with Ryan again, on our last full day of riding. The usual climb up to Lluc (the third time for the week…our Halvasso) was getting easier, A10k warm up! At the top, Ryan led on towards Soller and the gateway to the Col de Reis ( Sa Colabra) The Big One! 5.9 miles, 2191 ft of climb, average 7.1%. A proper challenge for the last day. The descent was spectacular, with deep […] Read More

Day 5

We’ve got a big day coming up on Thursday (Day 6) as Ryan will be joining us again to climb the iconic Sa Colabra. So we had to keep the options open on today’s ride and we headed to the lower plains in the middle of the island. Progress was good so we made for Bunyola and the extra loop of climbing that it involved for coffee and crossaints in the breeze (Amanda opted for the sunny monastery doorway) From […] Read More

½ Ironman, The Movie

Though the May was unmistakeably out it was a foolish move to start out without a long sleeve base layer. However, I was late, again, but this time not of my making, and the “temporary” traffic lights in Bicklandwater Road didn’t help. Kath had sent me the destination, Portreath, and being only 10 minutes behind there was a fair chance I could get there at the same time as the rest, by cutting a couple of corners. I had stopped […] Read More

Day 4

Once upon a time in a little town in Majorca; Pretty Polence, there was a lost tribe of Wheelers, 3 men and a “Token Women” washed up and wined out after 3 days of hectic training. Twas ‘eavenly, the heavens opened upon them and they suffered not to go out until the sun had risen above the yard arm; armless as it was, after 11is’s. The epic planned journey was parked for another day, they made a rush for the coast […] Read More

Day 3

Ryan and Lucas. Col de Femenia It’s always a joy to be in the presence of cycling royalty. Did I ever tell you that I rode with Chris Boardman…….. Yesterday we were fortunate enough to meet up with, not only Ryan, but his son Lucas. Many of you will remember Ryan from his time at Port Pendennis as the skipper of a luxury yacht but with a need to be out on his bike. Ryan and his family live in […] Read More

Days 1-2

The tour or Majorca has begun. Robin, Phil 4, John and Amanda This is why we’ve come to Majorca, it’s warm and sunny and our taxi driver is a font of knowledge and confirms our belief that we chose a good location. The villa in Pollenca is everything and more then we ever expected.  The Bougainvillia  perfectly shades  our outside dinning area; lemons dropping from the trees and an exotic fruit, that we don’t know the name of, but our […] Read More

Lucy’s London Marathon Report!

It’s Lucy again! The last time I wrote I was making my final preparations for the 38th Virgin Money London Marathon and now I am an official finisher.   I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who made my cake sale at Wendron such a success. On the day I managed to raise £112 for Mind, and I couldn’t of done that without all of your kind donations, whether that be from making or buying cake, […] Read More

The Chair gets the casting vote

Before I got to Bicklandwater Rd I had doubts about my summer attire, so returned home to grab my Night Vision jacket, available from Evans Cycles, and good job too. Open the side vents during the odd moments of warmth and zipped up tight whilst it decided whether to rain or hail over Blackwater way. Even with the “temporary” traffic lights by the football club I was at Union Corner before Kath and Ian, but Phil1 was already propping up […] Read More

Stithian Sunset

The Wednesday evening pub ride destination was the Golden Lion by Stithians Lake, and what a superb evening it was – just as was forecast. How nice when they get it right! I rode there from home via Cot Hill and the Lakeside Café for a coffee; then to sit in the sun at the Golden Lion. Julian was already there and then the others arrived> They decided to go inside as it was a bit cold so sit out […] Read More
