Report on the club meeting, August 25th 2022

The meeting was very well attended, and apologies were received from Paula, Sarah, Sylvia, Steve H, Simon and Jan.

Past Events:

The Falmouth and Penryn Cycling Campaign has been supported by Dean and several other members – the last ride attracted a total of 23 cyclists.  They meet on the Moor at 6.30pm, and the next ride is on Wednesday Sept 7th.

Robin’s London-Edinburgh-London Audax, starting on August 6th, was longer and more difficult than last time, with more road bridges and a last minute route change, which threw out Robin’s plans and caused him to be 38 minutes out of time… disappointing.

Denise, Sonjia and Don are on the last part of their JOGLE, and are expected to finish at Land’s End on Monday 29th.  Denise’s fund raising for Breast Cancer support has reached over £1,300 so far…well done!

Ten Wheelers enjoyed a week in the Cotswolds, led by Trevor C.

The Wednesday evening pub rides are going well – attended by car and walking as well as on bikes!  The Sunday and OGIL rides have also been well attended.

Future Events:

Sept. 25th – Pathfinder from Sourton near Oakhampton, led by Kath and Sheila.  More details to follow.

Sept. 26th – Pilates with Jan starts at Wood Lane, 5.15pm.

Oct. 13th – Quiz set by Richard.  7.30pm at Wood Lane.  There’ll be prizes and a raffle.  More details at next month’s meeting on Sept 29th.

Oct 27th -the October meeting, when Robin and Simon will be talking about ‘Healthy Aging’.

AOB

Dean asked for a Treasures’ Report.  Phil S. told us that the club was in a healthy financial state, with £3,030 in the account and £600 in the charity fund, and with about £1,000 worth of club kit.  He also holds 25 Croyde maps, available at £1 each.

Martyn reported that his Audax back in July made a profit of £126, which was one third of the total takings.  Some riders hadn’t received emails concerning the Audax – did they go into spam?

There was no other business, so the meeting closed at 8.15pm, and was followed by Adrian Mitchell reading two passages from one of his favourite cycling books ‘ The Escape Artist’ by Matt Seaton.  They were both evocative and amusing – very enjoyable.
