March meeting 2020

Welcome to the March Falmouth Wheelers meeting. Well, what a strange, bizarre and concerning situation we find ourselves in. When at the last meeting, the AGM, I said in the Chairpersons report that we are entering an exciting year for cycling this was certainly not what I had in mind.  None of us could have dreamt of this, well maybe one or two may have done but that’s another story and probably beer fuelled. This is the bit where I […] Read More

SolOGIL ride to Porthleven

Porthleven

Admittedly, I was slightly late arriving at Union Corner, but nobody was there so I carried on to the other place at speed, arriving more or less at the usual time.  Again, no one.  Oh well, looks like a solo ride today.  The sun is shining, the roads are dry and there is virtually no traffic, so a trip to Porthleven didn’t seem like a bad idea. I followed the usual route through Carnkie, Porkellis and Nancegollan but then took […] Read More

Solo Sunday

Being Mothering Sunday I’d agreed ( well, been told ) to get back by 11 am and help with cooking the roast dinner. We both felt very smug that, contrary to Boris’s advice, we were going to see Gill’s mum! And even more smug that we would whoosh her over to our place in our all electric car. We’re so darn organised these days! I realised it was going to be a different experience today when I approached a gentleman […] Read More

Please, please, please

Take heed of the current advice from Cycling UK, the Government and Health officials regarding cycling and social distancing. Cycling,  exercise and fresh air are really important to our Health and Well being but we must help stop the spread of the coronovirus and social distancing and self isolating seem to be one of the best ways. Please consider everyone. Thanks and stay safe, Kath

Not the OGIL ride report

Mindful of the proclamation made by our illustrious leader (aka the chairperson) about the conduct of riders in relation to the club’s activities during the Covid-19 crisis, some of us began squirming on our bench seats in Jenn’s Diner.  We had realised that we were sporting club jerseys, thus possibly bringing the club into disrepute by riding in an identifiable group, often less than two metres apart.  Those of us not in club colours smugly got on with our various […] Read More

Update regarding Coronavirus and cycling

I am taking the advice from the Cycling UK website and Government and Health Officials guidelines and am advising that the Falmouth Wheelers’ ride calendar has been suspended with immediate effect and there will be no organised rides until further notice.  Please can I make it clear that if you wish to ride as a group that it must NOT be under the auspices of Falmouth Wheelers.  You will be doing it as a private event.  Please can I make […] Read More

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE/MARCH MEETING CANCELLED.

We are getting updates and changes regarding the Coronovirus daily. I can only stress that we make our own decisions regarding whether we ride as a group or not.  Health officials are advising ‘no small or large social gatherings’ and this seems to apply to being on a bike.  Cycling Uk are advising the cancellation of all Group Activities. Coffee shops may well be closing which will make the rides a little different too. Please can we all keep in […] Read More

Falmouth Wheelers’ Audax Events Cancelled

Falmouth Wheelers Audax Event has now been cancelled following statement from AUK and the closure of event HQ, Falmouth Cricket Club. The AUK Board has tonight decided to suspend recognition of all calendar, permanent and DIY events, with immediate effect, until further notice. More details on the members’ forum.

Here comes the sun

Five of us gathered at Union Corner – PhilC, Paul, Cath, me and, making a guest appearance after resting after his Festive 500 exploits, Trevor.  The sun was making an effort to appear, teasing us with a “now you see me now you don’t” game with some co-operative clouds.    Still, we were encouraged, and set off up to the other place.  For some reason, Paul decided to turn on the after-burners and we arrived in what felt like record […] Read More
