Nought to Culdrose in 26 minutes – OGIL ride 21.08.19

It must have been the promise of a rare dry day that brought everyone out, and we had to use two sets of fingers to count the 16 that assembled at the Halvasso turn. The usual lively debate about destination ensued, interspersed with conversation on other irrelevant topics that prolonged the decision making process. After dismissing most of West Cornwall on the grounds that someone or other had been there in the last six weeks, a sort of consensus settled […] Read More

The Sunday “Long ride” report

It’s become a regular thing – making the long ride, well, a long ride! First we rode to Lostwithiel and, via the Bodinnick ferry, returned through Fowey and Charlestown. Then the following week, via Tresillian and the small and very quiet lanes around St Michael Penkevil and Ruan Lanihorne we rode to St Mawes. This week we went to Porthgwarra, a tiny cove just east of Lands End. Amanda joined Phil, Ian, Chris and myself. She had said she might […] Read More

Where did you get that hat, where did you get that hat!

A flurry of messages on the WhatsApp group, together with a phone call just as I was starting out, meant that I was 5 minutes late arriving at Union Corner and didn’t catch up any time on the way over to Halvasso turn. It was drizzling and Mystic Meg did not promise any improvement, well it is Falmouth Air Display day, and with the number of excuses already received I was surprised that there were 6 OGIL at the other […] Read More

Carnival thanks

Many thanks to all who marched with the Carnival on Saturday. I thought we looked splendid in Club Kit especially the youngsters. I think we collected a good amount in the buckets for all of the Charities.

Lord, don’t stop the Carnival

When I heard that Boardmasters had been cancelled because of an extreme weather report I had secretly hoped that the Falmouth Carnival Organisers might have taken note. I had avoided being in or even watching the Falmouth Carnival in each of the previous 30 years I have lived in Cornwall, and now I know why. Mind you, there were many that didn’t share my opinion. Caroline was there, Steve and Gill, Marilyn, Teresa, £5 Jim, Rob Jenkin, but all of […] Read More

In presenting the Certificate Kath noted that Martyn, who has been an active member of the club for more than ten […] Read More

I have often ridden up this street before ….

But my bum has always stayed upon my seat before. I think I must be getting old as the hill up from the Loe Beach Café was a bit of a strain this morning. When Phil1 said that it was only 150 my fears were confirmed. It has been announced that Boardmasters is being cancelled due to doom and gloom on the weather front (what a pity Brexit can’t be, Ed) so I was expecting a rainy ride, but it […] Read More

There & back, round & round and up & down and somewhere in here is a cycling sportive

There’s more to a weekend of cycling than just the main event!  Several Wheelers had entered the Ride London & Surrey 100, so I am sure that between them they can put together a full report of the big ride itself.  A weekend of cycling covers many other activities over the three days or so.  My account covers what I got up to on the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. My journey up was mainly by train, as was the […] Read More

Ride London 2019

Hi, just home from taking part in the London 100 another great ride with much better weather this year! Over 29,000 riders took part and it amazes me how well organised it is with every rider crossing the start line exactly on the designated minute!! There were 7 Wheelers this year, Jan, Jo, myself, Tania, Richard, Ian and John Hyslop who was riding with his wife, Geraldine, and son and crossed the finish line as a family! Geraldine and another in […] Read More
