Jans Pathfinder

Jan’s Pathfinder 23rd April.

This ride was described as being short but hilly this may have been the reason only 10 turned up at St Erth. The weather was to be showers in the morning turning brighter later. We the water proofs went on before we left but it was only light rain. As there was only ten it was simple to break up into 2 groups with suitable gofer’s.
Off across the A30 to the lane opposite the station to take us to Lelant Downs climbing up passed Trencrom Hill. At this point our leader admitted to not being able to find the way as the Wahoo wasn’t working. A short stop sorted it out and we were off again to the first viewpoint overlooking Mounts Bay with photos taken by Sarah, Club photographer. This was followed by a nice downhill bit to Ludgvan. Then came the long climb up to Nancledra as the sun stared to appear.
We kept climbing up to Georgia and Amalveor until we reached the Towednack road. It was a right turn at Breda which took us up again to our next viewpoint and group photos overlooking St Ives Bay and all the way up to St Agnes Head. As the sun was shining it was time to peel off a layer ready for the final leg.
Along the main road to a left turn at the Halsedown Inn then all downhill to cross the St Ives Road. This took us down to St Uny Church normally a very rough potholed road but we’re my tyres deceiving me, no it was fresh blacktop, deep joy! Someone at the golf club must have complained, thank you. Last bit to the lunch stop at Birdies Bistro was spoiled by a Range Rover and white van completely blocking the cycle path, very annoying!
We were fortunate to be able to all sit inside together, staff very helpful putting table together and taking orders very efficiently. Food came quickly, varying between fish finger sandwich, bubble and squeak and steak.
Time to leave and the group broke up some heading back to St Erth and others heading home in the opposite direction. A lovely ride alone some old and new lanes for me.
Thanks to Jan.
Photos available soon!
22 miles and a modest 1890 ft.
