The forecast was not very favourable ……..

The forecast was not very favourable with light rain forecast but clearing later so all who gathered were hopeful. Perranuthnoe was proposed and Trevor suggested Porthleven as Denise had to be back by 2.00pm. So Ian, Sylvia, Christine, Don M, Amanda, Ben, Sarah & Fred set off for Perranuthnoe, and Trevor, Denise, Barbara, Mike & Sonjia set off for Porthleven. Just after Crane garage turn off the Heavens descended upon us so a quick rethink was in order and we […] Read More

Ride Report Sunday 23rd October

Overcast with sunny intervals rain later! Not a promising forecast but then this is Cornwall and we have been spoilt this summer. Ten wheelers turned up at HQ – Sheila, Phil1, Trevor C, Ian, Robin, Phil4, Amanda, Colin, Ben and yours truly. Ian suggested a ride to Via Ferrata, do you think we are fit enough, that’s a long way, we have to go up a hill, etc, etc, all the usual inane banter. Hang on, says Ian we can […] Read More

Wheelers Sunday Ride 9th October

A very good turnout by Club members today, we were up into the 20’s with several different routes being discussed, Portreath, Porthleven, Perranuthnoe and Perranporth. It was definitely a ‘P’ day! I opted for Perranporth along with seven others, Fred, Kath, Sheila, Colin, Trevor3, Ben and Dean. The weather was going to be dry but with an autumnal chill in the southerly wind. The chosen route was across to the Norway via Treluswell. Up to Carnon Downs down to […] Read More

Ogil ride on Wednesday 28th September

“Can you write a report on today’s ride, Phil? To celebrate your first completed ride for three months?” Fred asked……here’s the answer: I looked at three weather apps to see what to wear and what the ride would be like. Thankfully, BBC and Met Office got it right- dull with a slim chance of light rain. XC Weather thankfully didn’t! Adrian caught me as I rode through Treverva before joining Fred, Amanda and Jan waiting at The Other Place. Soon […] Read More

September Pathfinder Report

We were taking a risk at setting the Pathfinder for September such a distance away and it would entail a round trip of about 140 miles but gosh, it was so worth it.  Sheila, Phil Conroy and I had reccy’d the ride a few weeks ago and knew what a treat was in store so didn’t want to change the start point. Devon lanes are very different to Cornish lanes with regard to the amount of traffic that uses them […] Read More

What did the bike say when it was dropped in the river? OGIL, OGIL, OGIL.

The sun was shining and the sky was clear as I had my breakfast this morning, and read the messages from the doomsayers about going out earlier to avoid the weather. It’s the OGIL ride for goodness sake; we don’t go out at different times to avoid the weather! That’s what OGILing is all about. You get wet, you chose the destination to limit this, but you don’t try to avoid it. Anyhow, whilst a couple of the usual group […] Read More
