Destination Perranuthnoe Sunday 1st June

Joe, Trevor, Liz, Paula, Jess, Barbara, Denise and Don Morris set of out through Budock, Argal crossroads, the scene of poor Amy’s Accident -glad she was ok and not badly hurt. Hopefully see her back in her bike soon. The usual climb up Halvasso where Amy (? Ed) and Jess left us for other commitments. Jess was a new cyclists to Falmouth wheelers -hopefully will be out again soon. On to Carnkie, through Porkellis, Nancegollan, Godolphin Cross, Millpool and Goldsithney, […] Read More

It felt very French but with hills

It’s been a little while since I’ve ridden with the Wheelers on a Sunday, the Wednesday OGIL ride tends to be my day just recently and it was great to see so many at HQ. After a bit of catching up and chat we organised ourselves into 3 groups.  We were off to Crantock with a group of 13 riders and 12 bikes, nice to see Martyn and Margaret. Phil Samuel was off to hunt for NZ Dave’s shoes and […] Read More

Old cyclists shock horror and other fake news

OGIL ride 2nd June 2021 The weather forecast had promised thunderstorms, which presumably had deterred Kath from venturing out, but the skies looked benign enough as we gathered at UC.  We met up with the other crowd at TOP, regrettably without our illustrious leader who was having car trouble (??).  As the sun began to peek through, the obvious choice of destination was Perranuthnoe.  As per usual, we stopped at the weighbridge above Halvasso to re-group.  A count was made […] Read More

Lamorna for Lunch

Seven gathered at Halvasso weighbridge, destination Lamorna, weather fantastic and an easterly wind to speed us outbound, what could possibly go wrong!? We hadn’t even got to the Helston road before Steve diverted us from our smugness and announced a deflation in the road interface department, this has to be a record? Offering to remain to provide moral support, Robin prompted the remainder to push on, which we did only to be caught and overtaken in Praze. A familiar route […] Read More

A Tale of two cafes

“Where are we going?” Respectfully asked the 9 OGILs of Chairman Fred. “Let’s vote” said Fred, offering the single choice of Lakeside which was eventually carried five to four – the four dissidents still await their sanctions. Theresa politely asked if she could join the group, clearly intimidated by the racing snake physiques around her, claiming she might not be as fast. Next spotted chasing Ian to the top of Halvasso, her claims of being “relatively new to this” are […] Read More

G7 at Portreath

OGIL ride 26 May 2021 I see that Dean the Elder has reported on the exploits of the other OGIL group that ended up in Portreath, so I will restrict myself to filling in the gaps that he accidentally (or intentionally?) left, and adding details of the G7 ride led by Ian. As I went out one morning, I noticed for a change the weather forecast was not that a hard rain’s a-gonna fall or that there would be buckets […] Read More

Report on the May 27th Meeting

The May Meeting was held in Queen Mary gardens, Falmouth, as we’re now allowed to gather in groups of up to thirty out of doors.  Despite a grey and rather chilly evening, 24 members attended, although it seemed that most had flasks of hot drinks rather than picnics. Apologies were received from Phil Conroy, Peter Williams, Ian, Sonjia, Sheila and Sylvia.  Fred chaired the meeting and reported that the Pathfinder ride from Longrock on Sunday May 23rd had been cancelled […] Read More

Too many OGIL go to Portreath.

I’ll take up the story at the other place. It was decided that having more OGIL than you could count in one go it was decided that we would split into two groups, each making their own way to Portreath. Ian lead off the first group with the parting words, “you know where Portreath is?” We had a visitor this morning, Sarah J, a friend of Sarah P, who first joined us last week but was not put off. Sarah […] Read More

Seven go in search of coffee

Despite the forecast poor weather which had postponed the planned Pathfinder, six brave souls were at HQ looking forward to a wet and windy ride. “Not too far”, “not too long”, “Muddy Beach” were just some of the requests and after a shorter than normal planning meeting our explorers set off for Helston boating lake. Cabbage patch, Buddock, No Man’s Land and up to the cross roads gave us a chance to warm up, get the first soaking and talk […] Read More

Halvasso traffic blight

OGIL ride 19 May 2021 Once the UC lot had got to TOP, we had amassed a heady 13 riders with the same number of bicycles.  Other than one pessimist in longs, and two sitting on the fence in three-quarters, everyone was baring their knees in the expectation of sun or at least a little warmth, although long sleeves and jackets were universal.  Conversation was lively as usual, as though we had not seen each other for months, and in […] Read More
