Chairman’s delight

How truly pleasing it was to see so many Wheelers gathered at HQ this morning; over 30 I am led to believe. It was nice to see so many old and new faces I think we could have stayed chattering for an hour at least but we came to ride so ride we must. Groups sorted them selves out; Robin took a group to Moushole; Trevor took a sizeable group to Hells mouth; Liz and the girls set off for […] Read More

Six to the Crate

Today saw the biggest crowd of Wheelers at HQ in a very long time – 30 of us, brought out by a beautiful Sunday morning – but we soon dispersed into four groups, with six of us – Sonjia, Sheila, Jo, Christine, Amy and myself deciding on a visit to the Crate, via Gweek. We took the usual route, with Jo and Christine mostly leading, Sheila up at the front on her snazzy new electric steed; Sonjia, who says she’s […] Read More

Report on the April zoom meeting

The Wheeler’s Zoom meeting last night  was the final one in that form – the next  two will be open air picnics, and then we get back to Wood Lane Social Club after a break of well over a year. 12 members joined the meeting last night, chaired by Fred.  We were all pleased to hear that Wood Lane will be open and welcoming everyone from July 1st, after an extensive refurbishment, so our meeting, as  usual, will be on […] Read More

I didn’t mean that way Fred!!

Numbers were down at HQ this Sunday with only eight of us. Fred, Dean, Phil S, Don, Damien, Paul, Danny and myself. A ride to St Mawes was decided on after much discussion about which direction to go in the strong easterly gale. So, on we went via Mylor Downs, Devoran, Point, up Harris Hill and onto the ferry after negotiating the treacherous slipway at low tide. After the slog up the hill from the ferry we re-grouped. Another decision […] Read More

what goes quack, quack, plonk?

Nine arrived at The other place and the conversation drifted around but come the allotted hour and the appearance of the Union corner crowd, the cry went up “Where’s the derny bike when you need it?” We waited for Mike and the pacer machine but it wasn’t to be today, another chain snap maybe? Anyway there was plenty to talk about besides. Damien sported a new pair of bright red cycle shoes which coordinated with his cycle top so was […] Read More

Two for the price of one

When I learned that there had been a complaint (well, an expression of disappointment) at the absence of a ride report for last week’s UC OGIL ride, I thought I had better at least record the highlights of that ride before I get on to the nitty gritty of today’s ride. So here goes. UC OGIL ride Wednesday 14th April As we congregated at Union Corner in the sunshine, it was obvious that the only possible destination could be Poldhu. […] Read More

Sunday 16 April

Fourteen riders met at HQ and unlike previous frosty Sunday mornings the weather was warm and sunny with very little breeze. I had intended to cycle with the ladies in the slower group but they had already met at Union Corner. When Fred announced that the ride was to Perranporth, I was all set to head home and do the garden! After much encouragement and assurance from Fred that I wouldn’t be left for dead, I set off with some […] Read More

LEFT! RIGHT! LEFT! …..The OGILs rode on

Where did we ride today? How did we get to the Godrevy café? Ask any OGIL who was there and I doubt you would get much more than an “..Err….ask me another?”. It was a beautiful day that dawned crisp and sunny. 6 had “booked” their COVIDcompliant slots at TOP and so….9 set off. But Phil 3 soon assured us that he had it on good authority (from CyclingUK) that a group of 15 on the road is now allowed. […] Read More

The short “long” ride down the ages.

I suggested we’d go east this week as I was not long from my sick bed ( serious man flu) so meeting at the “Norway Inn” would give me an easy start to the day. Amanda was on “barista watch” in Somerset and Sylvia preferred slightly more mature company so there were just chaps this week. Charlie in his twenties, Ben in his thirties, Phil 4 in his forties ( now looking a bit “hipster” with some impressive facial growth […] Read More
