Once again the March 25th meeting was on Zoom, attended by 13 members. We’re hoping that we’ll all be able to get together in a ‘real’ venue – with a bar! – before too long, but for the next couple of months it has to be virtual. When the AGM closed on Zoom on Thursday evening, (which was attended by 18 members – see the Members Only section to read the minutes), we turned to general discussion after Kath had opened her leaving present of a rose bush in a pot, appropriately named ‘Proper Job’, to thank her for her excellent leadership and hard work over the last three years. Well, here we are a few months on and not a lot has really changed – at least as far as cycling is concerned. How are other Wheelers ‘surviving’? I am still doing as many rides a week as possible: keeping local which means around 25 miles a day along now-familiar lanes and still avoiding too many main roads. It does become a bit of a pain in the proverbial riding 265km a day on one of the ultra long distance events as the Calais-Brindisi had been in 1984 after so many continuous days in the saddle. For the second time, our monthly club meeting was held on Zoom, with 13 members joining in. Various issues were discussed, and Phil reported that 39 members have already paid their subs for 2021, which is the fastest ever. Using bank transfer has been very successful – it’s easier for everyone and will be continued from now on. The Falmouth & Penryn Cycling campaign now has its own website. Since being created in August last year we have gained 175 members on the facebook group and hope to reach a larger audience through a website. Our aspiration is for safer, better and more cycling in the Falmouth and Penryn area. Saturday night is our Velovino evening to get together for an hour (ish) and catch up with each other. At the moment we’re only able to cycle locally with one another so this is a chance to hear about the creative routes we’ve been on as well as any other world topics that crop up.
