Stop Press Outdoor Meeting Cancelled

Due to the forecast of Heavy Rain for Thursday we have made the decision to cancel the proposed Meeting for Thursday 27th August. We will commence the meetings as normal in October when Woodlane Social Club will re-open for business. I shall continue with the format of putting the meeting notes on the Website as I have been doing since Lockdown.

to Hell and back….

In fact, yesterday’s ride was one of the best for a long time – the slower group set out for Hell’s Mouth cafe, led by Trevor  who can be relied on to take an interesting route – and not so slowly, either.  We went via Halvasso, round Stithians on the east side, right towards Lanner and along the Great Flat Lode cycle track, where we turned off at the metal gate (infamous for confusing riders on the Mines and Minerals […] Read More

AUGUST MEETING NEWS

We are going to attempt to have our August meeting in real time.  The venue will be Woodlane Social Club Car Park and the start time will be 7.30 pm.  Please don’t arrive before 7.15 pm and please ensure that you are socially distancing prior to the meeting. You will need to bring something to sit on, Chair or Blanket so that we can be kept 2 metres apart.  I would like to discourage standing as we may be inclined […] Read More

A damp Ogil ride to Miss Molly’s

With a wet forecast and various excuses being posted in advance, I was pleased when Dean and Simon responded favourably to my intention to ride today. I was in good time and made my wife a second coffee before I left, only to realise I’d forgotten my water bottle. Hastily returning, I was now running late but not as late as Simon who messaged to say he’d meet us at our destination. Dean and Paul were waiting when I arrived […] Read More

A great new cafe!

On the way back from a circuit of Stithians lake yesterday, I took the opportunity to check out the new cafe at the Via Ferrata site on the Halvasso road, next to BF Adventure.  The huge granite quarry has been converted into a challenging climbing course, with high wire bridges, abseiling descents and zip wires.  The cafe ‘The Cornish Barista’  overlooks the quarry and has a good range of hot drinks, a full menu and a range of scrumptious looking […] Read More

Helston boating lake

OGIL ride 12.08.20 Despite ominous warnings of thunderstorms, Wednesday morning didn’t look too bad weatherwise after all. A number of fellow OGILs obviously agreed with this and turned out for the ride to Helston. This had been suggested the day before on the assumption that the day was going to be a wash-out and we needed somewhere inside to sit for our coffee and victuals. The fact that Ian also turned up proved our suspicions that it was not going […] Read More

July meeting Part 2

Well, I’m not quite sure what happened last week but I managed to put the meeting out a week early. The advantage to that is that you get another meeting this week and it gives me a chance to add anything that I had forgotten last week. I forgot to mention the Polpear Cafe on the Lizard on our ‘getting it right list’ Liz went recently and said that they were welcomed as special guests. Liz says that they have […] Read More

Bluebells on a Summers Day

It’s getting very busy in the coastal towns and on the beaches now that we are seeing a lot of visitors visiting the county so we decided to keep inland and visit for the first time since lockdown, for me at least, the Bluebell Nursery just outside of Praze-an-Beeble. It started off as a standard route but when we have Ian with us our route usually takes a little detour, generally up a lot of hills but that wasn’t the […] Read More

JULY MEETING

There was amazing club representation as we said an emotional farewell to Raymond. ‘One of the good guys’ is a phrase I have used and have heard this used often by others. There must have been 25 Wheelers, or more, lining the square in St.Keverne along with nearly 100 motorcycles gleaming in the sunshine, many of them with a photograph of Raymond attached to the fronts of the bikes. At 11.00 the funeral car passed by followed by Raymond’s […] Read More

My Tour of Kernow attempt

The wonderful world wide web reveals the origins of the name Audax as thus; “French from Italian (apparently originally with reference to a ride from Rome to Naples first held in 1897), from Latin audax, audac- ‘bold, daring’ (see audacious).” Certainly anyone attempting to ride Simon’s permanent “Tour of Kernow” could be described as bold – or daring – or just a little bonkers! It’s 450km and the time limit is 30 hrs. There are three ferries to catch. And […] Read More
